When brake pads run at high temperatures, gases can be created in the pad and can cause a layer between the pad and rotor. This can make the driver feel like they have lost performance as the brake pedal feels the same, but the car won’t stop as normal. This is called fade. A slot is cut in almost all PBS pads to offer the gases a route to exit.
Bedding inn PBSbrake pads are put through heat curing treatment in the manufacturing process. This process ‘burns out’ unwanted materials in advance, reducing the gases that can cause fade. Because of this treatment, PBS brake pads only need light ‘bedding in’ to match the pad to the disc.
